Yarmouth and Acadian Shores

Yarmouth and Acadian Shores boast some of the most exuberant examples of Victorian houses in the Maritimes, a legacy of the wealthy captains and shipowners of the town’s seafaring Golden Age.

Yarmouth’s heritage district preserves several blocks of these residences, including the Lovitt House and Eakin/Hatfield House., many historical homes now operate as B&Bs open to tourists in season. Yarmouth also is home to a wonderful year round farmers market, several coffee shops and 2 game stores just to name a few of the charming shops that line her main street.  Residents and visitors alike have a wide variety of options when it comes to shopping, and dining out as well as museums, cinema and even a theatre company.

On the waterfront, two historic warehouses survive from the sailing era, the Killam Brothers and Parker-Eakin’s buildings, each with an associated wharf, which are the focal points of summer waterfront events. The largest building in the town is a 1970s hotel, the Rodd Grand Hotel. It is built on the site of the original Grand Hotel, a Second Empire hotel which was the town’s landmark for many years.

A landmark for Yarmouth Harbour is the large Cape Forchu Lighthouse which is located a few kilometers away at the headland of Cape Forchu, the peninsula that guards Yarmouth Harbour. The tall “apple core” style is a notable example of modernist style light tower. Yarmouth like many seaside towns in Nova Scotia boasts a lively and prosperous lobster fishing industry.

Many people will get the unique experience of seeing Yarmouth as their first port of call when coming to NS from Main on the Ferry, a service which operates from May to October annually.

It includes many ideas and techniques to help you change your life from one that is self-destructive and unhappy to one that is constructive and satisfying.

SMART Recovery® is not a spin-off of Alcoholics Anonymous. We teach common sense self-help procedures designed to empower you to abstain and to develop a more positive lifestyle. When you succeed at following our approach, you may graduate from the program, or you may stay around to help others.

Searidge Alcohol Rehab offers a variety of aftercare programs to our alumni to help ensure their sobriety is sustained. The Gathering Place

The Gathering Place provides a safe, non-clinical, non-stigma space for clients who are stable in the diagnoses to attend on a weekly basis. The activities planned for each week vary, ranging from cooking low-cost, simple meals; what resources are available within the community that fit their needs; and ways to live a healthier lifestyle physically and mentally. The main goal is to provide an amicable setting where those in attendance can be themselves, interact with their peers, and feel a sense of belonging without a clinical focus.

The Gathering Place has partnered with several local organizations that support the program in various ways such as providing transportation to/from the program at no-cost to clients, free access to the walking track and sensory spaces at the local sports center, and St. John Ambulance for monthly dog-therapy to name a few.

Referral by calling or e-mailing us.

Only condition is that clients must be stable in their diagnosis in order to attend.
